LV= has expanded its digital offering to include remote physiotherapy and mental health care, allowing its customers to access a wider variety of wellness treatments. Providing policyholders with convenient access to treatment has a significant impact on businesses by improving employees’ health and decreasing the financial costs associated with sick days.
The Doctor Services benefit initially offered remote access to GPs, second opinions on diagnoses and a prescription delivery service. The service is available to all new LV= protection, business protection and retirement policies. Policyholders can use up to five remote physiotherapy sessions a year without the need for a GP referral and up to five consultations with a mental health professional.
Wellness through remote physiotherapy
LV=’s expansion of Doctor Services to include a wellness aspect is likely to be greatly appreciated by those who would usually need to take time off work to access these services.
This is especially true in light of record-high NHS waiting times across the UK. According to GlobalData research, the top reason people purchased private medical insurance in the past 12 months was due to concerns about NHS waiting times and services. This can deter people from seeking medical attention when they need it, and may lead to their symptoms becoming worse.
Therefore LV=’s expanded offering should be very valuable to employers who are seeking to reduce the amount of sick days taken in their organisation. The Office for National Statistics estimates that in the UK, 28.2 million and 15.0 million working days were lost due to musculoskeletal problems and mental health issues respectively in 2017, accounting for one third of all sickness days that year.
Providing employees with a convenient and timely service which can be accessed from any location increases the likelihood that minor physical and mental issues will be addressed early on.
