A lost life insurance policy can
have serious implications for beneficiaries – a problem a new
online service in the US, Find Your Policy, aims to
rectify.
Find Your Policy is the brainchild
of two brothers Michael and Edmund Hartmann who were left to settle
the affairs of their father’s estate after he died and were
frustrated in their attempts to research his insurance policies.
This prompted the brothers to create a database where insurance
agents and individuals can register their policies for free.

Searching for policies incurs a fee
of $9.95, a portion of which is donated to cancer research in
honour of their father.
According to the Hartmann brothers,
an estimated one out of every four life insurance policies go
unclaimed each year for various reasons, the most common of which
is misplaced policy information.
