The global insurance industry noticed an 8.3% rise in IT hiring activity in June 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 11.49% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity an increased 8.55% when compared with May 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.27% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in June 2021, down 0.13% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2021 were 7.98% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 12.41% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive insurance IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 50.06% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in June 2021, a 13.32% an increase over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 20% in June 2021, up 24.56% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.1% share in June 2021, an increase of 20.81% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.14% share in June 2021 and drop of 0.66% over May 2021.

Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 33.16% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

UnitedHealth Group posted 568 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a rise of 3.65% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 283 jobs and an 8.71% decline. Willis Towers Watson with 240 IT jobs and Centene with 219 jobs, recorded a 280.95% an increase and a 508.33% growth, respectively, while Dai-ichi Life Holdings recorded a 12.64% growth with 196 job postings during June 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in June 2021 with a 65.37% share, which marked an 18.3% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 16.83%, registering a 13.35% month-on-month an increase.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.76% share and a 9.93% rise over May 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 3.64% and a month-on-month growth of 11.8%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.4%, registering a 2.82% drop over the previous month.
