Hub International has expanded its presence in the agribusiness sector with the acquisition of Western Growers Insurance Services’ (WGIS) retail insurance brokerage business.

The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

The integration of WGIS’ retail insurance brokerage business into Hub’s operations is expected to catalyse long-term growth and broaden the scope of risk mitigation and management solutions available to clients in the agriculture industry.

WGIS operates out of ten offices across California and Arizona in the US, offering comprehensive risk management solutions, insurance products and employee benefits specifically tailored to the agribusiness and farm industry.

Hub Central & Northern California (Hub CNC) CEO Darren Caesar said: “California is one of the largest agricultural markets in the country, and WGIS’ depth of knowledge and experience will bolster our offerings to clients in this key industry.”

WGIS president Jeff Gullickson, along with Jodi Martin, Natalie Berend, Ken Cooper and the WGIS team, will join Hub CNC.

Gullickson will lead the regional agribusiness practice and continue as WGIS president post-transaction.

Western Growers (WG) president and CEO Dave Puglia said: “Not only does Hub offer expanded scale and capabilities for WGIS, Hub also has a deep understanding of the agriculture industry.

“This transaction allows WGIS to focus on its core services while also providing industry-leading services and capabilities to our members and clients, both in employee benefits and commercial lines.”

MarshBerry acted as an advisor to WG during the acquisition process.

WG, established in 1926, advocates for local and regional family farmers in the US, specifically those cultivating fresh produce in California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.

In March this year, Hub expanded its US presence by acquiring Bolds Risk & Insurance Services’ assets.
