Jean-Jacques Henchoz, CEO of Hannover Re, has chosen not to renew his contract and will step down from his role.

He will leave the Executive Board on 31 March 2025.

Following this move, Hannover Re has announced some key transitions in the leadership team.

Clemens Jungsthöfel, the current CFO, will succeed Henchoz as CEO from 1 April 2025.

Christian Hermelingmeier, currently the CFO at HDI Global, will assume the same role at Hannover Re.

Since taking the helm in 2019, Henchoz has steered Hannover Re through turbulent market conditions, nearly doubling its market value to approximately €29bn ($31.24bn).

Under his leadership, the company has experienced profitable growth with an average return on equity of 14.7% over the past six years.

Jungsthöfel, a qualified auditor, tax advisor and trained insurance agent, has proven his expertise in his years as CFO of Hannover Re and HDI Global, as well as his time as a partner at KPMG where he focused on primary and reinsurance companies.

Hermelingmeier has been instrumental in HDI Global’s profitable growth and international expansion. Since his appointment as CFO, the international share of HDI Global’s business volume has increased from 50% to 75%.

Prior to this, he led the controlling department of Talanx Group’s Private and Commercial Insurance Germany division and is an actuary with the German Association of Statutory Health Insurance Companies.

Jean-Jacques Henchoz said: “The time at the helm of Hannover Re was very fulfilling both professionally and personally. Together with a great team, we succeeded in developing Hannover Re further and increasing its profitability.

“The aim of my next professional chapter is to contribute my experience in non-operational and advisory roles. Until the end of March, I will continue to devote myself fully to my role as chairman of the Executive Board of Hannover Re and ensure an orderly handover to Clemens Jungsthöfel, my preferred successor.”
