AXA XL, a division of global insurer AXA, has named Jon Tellekamp as its new chief underwriting officer for construction and energy.

Tellekamp will head AXA XL’s combined construction and energy underwriting and risk engineering teams in the commercial space and report to the company’s head of large commercial Donna Nadeau.

Prior to AXA XL, Tellekamp has an around 20-year stint at Liberty Mutual.

He was latterly the senior vice president and head of excess casualty for major accounts at Liberty Mutual, managing excess casualty insurance offerings for the company’s largest clients.

Before that, he oversaw Liberty’s US excess casualty construction and energy segment.

Commenting on the appointment, Nadeau said: “Both construction and energy industries face similar risks, including project delays, safety hazards, and environmental challenges. This is exactly what drove us to combine these teams to allow for a more integrated approach to risk management and insurance solutions.
