UK-based Evolin Broking has launched a construction division and appointed Steve Downing as its head.
Downing is based in London and reports to managing director Chris Baulf.
He is responsible for leading the expansion of the construction division, covering areas such as construction all risks, erection all risks, builders’ risk, delay in start-up and third-party liability, in addition to the current construction liability offering.
He is tasked with recruiting talent to support product development and distribution.
Downing has more than 30 years of industry experience, with senior roles including senior vice-president at Lockton and director at Willis.
He was formerly an account executive at Miller Insurance Services, where he led the international construction team.

This appointment follows recent promotions in the financial and professional lines team. These include the appointment of Sam Tickell as senior broker, along with Gemma Davies and Sarah Kersch as associate directors.
In 2024, GAWS of London rebranded to Evolin, becoming an independent wholesale insurance broker in the London market and an approved broker and cover holder with Lloyd’s of London.
Evolin’s wholesale insurance services include coverage for cargo and stock throughput, casualty, construction, cyber, financial & professional lines, marine, product recall, property, terrorism and political violence, and specie.
