Pen Underwriting, a subsidiary of Arthur J Gallagher, has reorganised its divisional structure to consolidate its commercial underwriting capabilities within the UK and Ireland.

The company stated that this move will benefit brokers and support regional growth plans.

Sarah Breslin will spearhead the new commercial UK & Ireland division as the managing director.

Breslin said: “I am excited to lead this combined team as we head into 2025, prioritising the breadth and depth of our product offering across our UK office network and into the Republic of Ireland.”

The restructure integrates teams specialising in property, casualty, fleet and financial lines insurance.

Additionally, the restructuring coincides with the retirement of Richard Webb, the MD of UK Financial Lines & Specialty Liability, who will depart later this year after a 40-year career in the industry.

Pen now operates with four main trading divisions: Commercial – UK & Ireland; SME & personal lines; international; and public sector, unifying the former specialty and UK Financial Lines & Specialty Liability divisions.

The product and regional leads within the new commercial UK & Ireland division, along with their specialist teams, will retain their current roles.

This latest announcement follows Pen’s expansion into Ireland with the acquisition of Wrightway Underwriting last year, setting the stage for cross-market product development and distribution.

Pen Underwriting CEO Tom Downey said: “As a result of bringing Wrightway into the Pen family and establishing our first on-the-ground presence in Ireland, we redoubled our focus on how best to grow and expand our business on a more regional basis across the UK and Ireland.

“Richard’s decision to hang up his ‘work boots’ gave rise to a natural opportunity to create a more unified commercial division that brings together all our complementary risk management and underwriting specialisms.

“Having already been leading on Wrightway’s integration into the Pen family, as part of her role as MD of our specialty division, Sarah is ideally placed to lead the enlarged, combined commercial division to deliver what brokers and their customers need, when and where they need it.”

This reorganisation follows the renewal last month of Pen’s collaboration with QBE in the UK and Ireland, a partnership that has now extended beyond a quarter of a century.
