French insurer SCOR has appointed Holger Schaefer as the new global head of casualty & environmental impairment liability (EIL) within SCOR Business Solutions, effective from 1 March 2025.
Schaefer will be based in Cologne, Germany, and report directly to Claire McDonald, CEO of SCOR Business Solutions.
He is succeeding Daniel Carreras, who moved on to become the chief underwriting officer for casualty across both the insurance and reinsurance divisions last year.
In his new position, Schaefer will oversee the casualty and EIL teams across the US, Europe and APAC [Asia-Pacific] regions.
The division recently added Brett Solway to spearhead the UK casualty book.
Schaefer spent 35 years at Allianz Group, holding senior management roles in underwriting and sales and distribution.
He has more than 15 years of experience on the underwriting casualty side and served as the head of casualty for AGCS Germany.
Notably, he established AGCS Germany’s first sales team, focusing on key account and broker relationship management.
Later, as global head of sales and distribution, Schaefer expanded this concept on a worldwide scale.
His career also includes leadership positions as CEO for AGCS Pacific in Sydney and Regional CEO APAC for Allianz Trade in Hong Kong.
McDonald commented: “We are delighted to welcome Holger Schaefer to SCOR Business Solutions as our new global head of Casualty & EIL. Holger’s extensive experience in leading underwriting businesses and driving profitable growth will be invaluable as we continue to expand our global presence.
“His proven track record, combined with his innovative approach, makes him the perfect fit for our team.”
SCOR Business Solutions serves as the corporate risks insurance arm of the SCOR group.
Schaefer’s appointment follows Arta Nasradini’s appointment as the head of aviation at SCOR P&C last month.
