Chinese insurtech company Waterdrop has integrated with DeepSeek, aiming to accelerate the company’s business growth by applying large-scale AI models to specialised insurance scenarios.

The integration is expected to result in the development of intelligent solutions that span sales support, quality assurance, risk management and product innovation.

Waterdrop’s AI Insurance Expert has been upgraded to support multimodal interactions including voice and text, facilitating complex dialogues and aiding in the formulation of sales strategies.

The solution can autonomously manage voice communications and consultations for various insurance products such as accident and medical coverage.

The system is capable of engaging users in sessions lasting up to 50 minutes, the company said.

Waterdrop has introduced its Large-scale AI Model Insurance Quality Inspection solution to further regulate and raise insurance service standards.

This solution utilises contextual semantic understanding and long-text reasoning to analyse conversations, discern user intent and gauge emotional tone.

It also identifies nuanced quality inspection criteria, ensuring coverage across all communication channels including voice interactions and enterprise WeChat chat records.

Waterdrop founder and CEO Shen Peng said: “Since its establishment, Waterdrop has been dedicated to leveraging internet technology to promote inclusive insurance and drive the sustainable development of the industry through innovative, productivity-enhancing solutions.

“As part of its technology-driven strategy, Waterdrop is actively exploring the deep integration of large-scale AI models into insurance service scenarios, accelerating innovation in product offerings, and continuously refining its solutions to meet the diverse needs of users,” Shen added.

“By doing so, Waterdrop aims to empower individuals with access to better healthcare services at more affordable costs, further underscoring its mission to make quality insurance accessible to all.”

In 2024, Waterdrop introduced 174 insurance products, which represented more than 92% of its total offerings.

For the third quarter of 2024, which ended on 30 September 2024, Waterdrop reported a net operating revenue of 704.1m yuan ($97.03m). The net profit attributable to ordinary shareholders was 92.8m yuan, an increase of 152.6% from the previous year.
