Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has given Megan Howe the expanded responsibility of head of claims for Australasia.

Operating out of Auckland, Howe will report to BHSI chief claims officer Dave Crowe.

Having joined BHSI in 2015 as the head of claims for New Zealand, Howe started overseeing claims for the company’s global programme business in 2021.

In 2019, she became part of the Australasia leadership team.

Howe previously worked for 20 years as a lawyer, with her expertise spanning defence, coverage, and regulatory work for insurers and professionals.

BHSI Australasia president Mark Lingafelter said: “Over the past decade, Megan has set the standard for Claims excellence. Megan’s technical expertise and commitment to excellent service reflect our drive to deliver a superior and differentiated offering. Megan’s leadership has really brought to life our ‘CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT’ commitment to our customers and brokers.”

He added: “The regional leadership team have been working alongside Megan for some time, and we look forward to continuing the partnership as Megan takes on a wider leadership role across our region.”

In January this year, BHSI appointed Francesco Longobardo as the head of casualty in Italy.

Longobardo will oversee the underwriting of primary and excess casualty insurance for a variety of industry segments.

BHSI offers insurance services covering accident & health, casualty, executive and professional lines, healthcare professional liability, marine, medical stop loss, property, surety, transactional liability and travel, among others.
