Zurich has signed up to the UK’s Protection Distributor Group’s funeral payment pledge to help protection customers with funeral costs.
The group has asked insurers to agree to pay up to £5k in advance on all life assurance claims without waiting for probate.
Zurich said it has been providing such advance payments for over 15 years and welcomes the PDG campaign to make these payments common practice across the market.
Peter Hamilton, Zurich’s Head of Strategic Partnerships said: “We’re one hundred percent behind the pledge having been able to offer this type of support to our customers for many years.
“The point of claim is the real test for any insurer and we believe our own processes really do help the families of our customers at what will be a hugely difficult time emotionally, and potentially financially.”
Emma Thomson, chair of the Protection Distributors Group said Zurich’s approach to paying claims is “fantastic”, enabling claims to be paid when there may otherwise have been delays due to probate.
