John Hancock Financial makes senior appointments

John Hancock Financial,
the US division of Manulife Financial Corporation, has made two
senior appointments.

James D. Gallagher, an
18-year veteran of the company, has been appointed as executive
vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer.
His appointment took effect on 1 August.

In his role as general
counsel, Gallager directs John Hancock Financial’s legal and
compliance operations. As chief administration officer he overlooks
the company’s government, public and community relation functions
along with brand management and communications
operations.

John Hancock Financial
has also appointed Kevin J. Cloherty as deputy global compliance
chief to Gallagher. He is responsible for Manulife’s compliance
activities throughout Canada, Asia and the US.
