The global insurance industry noticed a 3.3% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 9.79% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity increased 7.82% when compared with July 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.29% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, down 0.4% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 0.93% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 1.51% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.63% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in August 2021, a 6.9% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 19.61% in August 2021, up 6.39% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.62% share in August 2021, a growth of 8.86% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.98% share in August 2021 and a drop of 1.27% over July 2021.
Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 20.1% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
UnitedHealth Group posted 507 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a drop of 7.99% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 372 jobs and a 19.23% growth. Dai-ichi Life Holdings with 284 IT jobs and Zurich Insurance Group with 261 jobs, recorded an 86.84% growth and a 50% rise, respectively, while Swiss Re recorded a 22.64% rise with 195 job postings during August 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in August 2021 with a 73.21% share, which marked a 10.94% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 14.23%, registering a 9.68% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 8.38% share and a 9.01% drop over July 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 3.07% and a month-on-month rise of 8.9%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1%, registering a 16.13% decrease over the previous month.
