The global insurance industry noticed a 4.8% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 11.09% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity increased by 3.83% when compared with June 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.55% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.09% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 1.31% lower compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.12% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 50.51% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in July 2021, a 9.47% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 19.98% in July 2021, down 3.48% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.43% share in July 2021, decline of 10.91% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.93% share in July 2021 and rise of 0.43% over June 2021.
Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 11.81% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
UnitedHealth Group posted 523 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 11.36% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 311 jobs and a 9.12% rise. Centene with 184 IT jobs and USAA with 157 jobs, recorded a 15.98% decline and an 8.28% growth, respectively, while The Allstate recorded a 42.54% drop with 154 job postings during July 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 65.78% share, which marked a 9.78% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 16.5%, registering a 2.51% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 13.47% share and a 0.79% rise over June 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.95% and a month-on-month drop of 21.02%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.29%, registering a 16.44% drop over the previous month.
