Gary Cohen has been reportedly named as the
director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance
Oversight (CCIIO) – the US agency charged with helping implement
many provisions of the Affordable Care Act, (ACA) known as
Obamacare.
The CCIIO focuses on areas including ensuring
compliance with new insurance market rules and providing
oversight for the State-Based health insurance exchanges.
Cohen, age 58, is reported to be returning to
head CCIIO from his recent job as chief counsel to the California
Health Benefit Exchange Board.
As the chief legal adviser, Gary provided policy guidance and
legal counsel on matters pertaining to the Exchange, its programmes
and operations.
President Obama has said that ACA means from 2014, the 30
million Americans who do not yet have health insurance will have
access to “affordable” private health insurance plans.
