Aegon Life Insurance announced that the personal data of 10,000 insurance customers possibly might have been compromised due to security vulnerability of its website.
The company, a joint venture between Netherlands-based Aegon and Indian media company Times Group, said that the customers’ information might have been exposed when they communicated with the insurer online.
Aegon Life Insurance, according to Reuters, in a statement said: “This incident was not the result of a hack or malicious activity and Aegon Life does not have evidence that customer information was taken.”
“Data security and customer privacy are of utmost importance, and we will continue to be transparent with customers as we investigate further.”
In an email, Aegon Life Insurance chief information security officer Fal Ghancha said that their information was secure.
“The issue was immediately rectified upon detection,” Ghancha said in the email, which was received by two reporters of Reuters who owns insurance policies with the company.
