Allianz Global Assistance has introduced the new SmartBenefits in a bid to improve the way travel insurance operates.

Available for trips booked via Allianz’s travel agency partners, the new capability aims to offer customers financial protection and emergency medical coverage and get their claims paid faster.

Using the new capability, customers can secure fixed payments of $100 per person for every travel delay on their debit card in minutes, or receive direct deposit payments within 24 to 48 hours.

The claim will be automatically filed on behalf of the customers by the company, which will monitor flights for qualifying delays of three to five hours. The company will mail a check automatically to customers on failing to take action.

Allianz will now also enable customers to file travel and baggage claims without uploading receipts.

Customers can file the claim online or through the TravelSmart app, and get notified of their claim status within seven days. Affected travellers may receive up to $100 per person per day.

Allianz global CEO of travel insurance and regional CEO for Americas Mike Nelson said: “By offering proactive claim payments on qualifying flight delays, our innovative SmartBenefits make it easier for customers to get paid quickly for their inconvenience.

“These enhancements to our travel protection products make travelling easier, more worry-free and enjoyable for our customers.”
