In a move designed to enhance
productivity across its global operations, UK insurer Aviva has
outsourced the management of its Microsoft communications solutions
to US technology company Hewlett-Packard (HP) for the next nine
years.
The Microsoft solutions
involved are Online SharePoint, an internet-based intra-company
communications system, and Office Communicator (also known as
Microsoft Lync), an instant messaging service.
“This new messaging and
collaboration environment brings new functionality and will help
increase employee productivity as well as reduce our cost of
ownership” said Aviva UK General Insurance CIO, Malcolm Simpkin.
“We worked closely with HP to create a clear business case for
change which aligns to our overall workplace strategy.”
Under the contract, HP will
migrate Aviva’s existing IBM Lotus Notes messaging environment,
including applications and about 30,000 user mailboxes, to the
Microsoft business process outsourcing solution which will be
delivered from Microsoft’s data centre in Dublin,
Ireland.
