AXA XL, the property and casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of AXA, has appointed Ana Dores as country manager for Iberia.
The appointment is effective 1 March and is pending regulatory approval.
Dores will take over from Enrique Lopez Torrents, who is departing AXA XL to explore opportunities outside the French insurance group.
AXA XL southern Europe regional manager Julien Guénot said: “The Iberia region is critical to the growth of our business in Europe. It is a strategic market for several of our key regional initiatives, including specialty, the mid-market segment, multinational solutions, and the development of international markets in Portugal and Latin America.”
Dores began her career at AIG in 2005 as a financial lines underwriter, initially in Portugal and later in Spain.
Later, she joined Liberty International Underwriters before moving to AXA XL in 2014 as a senior professional indemnity underwriter in Madrid.
Subsequently, she was promoted to deputy underwriting manager and later to underwriting manager for international financial lines in Iberia.
In 2022, Dores was named chief underwriting officer for international financial lines within the APAC and Europe business unit.
She became a member of AXA XL’s leadership team advisory council in 2023.
Guénot added: “Ana is a well-known and respected figure in the Spanish market. Her 20 years of experience in commercial lines, both in Spain and across the wider Europe and APAC regions, position her ideally to lead our teams in Spain and to continue to support our clients and brokers.”
Last month, AXA XL collaborated with London GreenCity, a UK-based accelerator for climate tech entrepreneurs, to offer insurance and risk management expertise.
The London GreenCity accelerator supports climate technologies aimed at tackling the causes and effects of climate change across various sectors including renewable energy, battery storage, transportation, agriculture and the built environment.
