Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has rolled out Defence Base Act (DBA) insurance globally, through its Dubai-based DBA-dedicated underwriting and claims team.

DBA insurance offers disability, medical and death benefits to covered employees. The coverage is applicable throughout the course of employment, whether the injury or death occurs on or off the job.

BHSI also provides additional coverage in other key areas including Emergency Medical Evacuation and Supplementary Repatriation Expenses to suit the customer needs.

BHSI Middle East Third-Party Lines head Neeraj Yadvendu said: “We are pleased to bring this mandatory coverage to contractors and companies operating throughout the Middle East and around the globe.

“Our coverage is supported by BHSI’s experienced Dubai-based DBA specialists who have well-established relationships with key vendors in volatile regions, ensuring exceptional services to customers when and where coverage is most needed.”

According to the US federal law, DBA insurance is required for US government contractors, private employers and contractors working outside the country on American military bases or under a contract with the US government for public works or for national defence.

These works include providing defence equipment, life support, materials or services to US allies or providing welfare services to benefit US Armed Services.

Last month, BHSI launched two new policies for UK financial institutions that articulate broad coverage for liability exposures faced by them.

The company also rolled out Professional First Technology Liability Insurance policies in Australia and New Zealand in the same month.
