Specialist reinsurance intermediary BMS Group has announced the appointment of Spencer Pearce as the leader of its mining practice.

Based in London, Pearce will join the broker in November and report to BMS managing director of international direct & facultative, global risks Chris Ritchie.

In his new position, Pearce will oversee the expansion of BMS’ mining practice into new territories.

Additionally, he will focus on enhancing its product portfolio by integrating complementary product lines to add value to the company’s customers.

With more than 30 years of experience, Pearce has operated in senior positions in both broking and underwriting.

Pearce started his career as an underwriter for insurance companies such as AXA, AIG and Chubb, focusing on mining and power generation.

He transitioned into broking in early 2000s, working with customers on a worldwide scale for Marsh, Aon and JLT.

Prior to BMS, Pearce was part of Canopius, where he established new lines of business within Lloyds and later took charge of the entire natural resources division, including construction.

Ritchie said: “Spencer’s extensive experience in managing complex insurance solutions and fostering client relationships will be instrumental in driving BMS forward, especially as we look to grow our distribution further geographically – we cannot wait for him to get started.”

Pearce added: “I am thrilled to be joining BMS, a business I have admired for some time. I am looking forward to bringing my broking and underwriting experience to join this dynamic, fast-growing and collaborative business.”

Last month, BMS Group elevated Hannah Watkins to the position of UK chief growth officer.

Watkins will lead the execution of BMS’ client-focused growth strategy from her base in London.

Watkins’ promotion was followed by BMS’ agreement to acquire David Roberts & Partners, a UK insurance broker, in a deal reportedly valued at £450m ($593.39m).
