Better workplace pension
benefits is the solution for European employers aiming to ensure a
contended workforce. This is the clear message of a study
undertaken by consultancy Aon Hewitt across all the major economies
in Europe.
On average, nearly half (49%)
of workers surveyed for Aon Hewitt’s study stated that they would
be prepared to sacrifice their income for a higher pension
contribution by their employer. On the other end of the scale, an
average of only 13% said that they would give up some of their
salary for additional days of leave.
Some 7,500 workers from
across Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands,
Norway, Spain, Switzerland and the UK were polled by Aon Hewitt for
the survey.
Commenting, global benefits
practice leader for Europe Ian Hinton said: “It is an absolute
turnaround that people are prepared to sacrifice their hard-earned
money today for a more financially secure future
tomorrow.
“Despite the protests in
France and Greece, the survey suggests that a growing number of
employees do understand why changes are needed to secure their
future financial situation.
“Tension arises, though, when
people see the practical consequences of the measures necessary to
implement, and the impact they will have.”
Other benefits that were found to be rated highly in the
survey were greater financial protection in the event of illness or
injury, which was selected by an average of 35% of respondents, as
well as alternative health care treatments, which was selected by
an average of 15% of respondents.
