Florida Blue, a state-based health insurer in Florida, has partnered with transportation network Lyft to offer select members ride services for doctor visits.
The service will be provided to Florida Blue members with Affordable Care Act (ACA) individual plans starting early next year.
The partnership is aimed at addressing the issue of unreliable transportation to avail medical appointments.
According to the company, millions of Americans miss their medical appointments annually due transportation issues, eventually, increasing medical costs.
Florida Blue executive vice-president of commercial markets Chuck Divita said: “We want to support our members and help ensure that a lack of transportation is not a barrier to getting the care they need.
“We are beginning our partnership with Lyft to serve members with ACA plans, and we will continue to assess ways to expand access to members in other Florida Blue plans in the future.”
