
Gallagher, a global insurance and consulting company, has bolstered its crisis management capabilities in the US by hiring Joe Gilliland as executive director.
In this role, Gilliland will be responsible the company’s growth plans in the region, collaborating with Bill Harrison, the current US team leader.
He has experience in all facets of crisis management, with expertise in terrorism, political violence and active shooter insurance and risk management solutions.
Gilliland’s appointment follows his stint at Sompo, where he was vice-president of crisis management underwriting and North America team lead.
His career also includes senior roles at Beazley and Aon, where he developed expertise in crisis management domains.
Gallagher Specialty crisis management managing director Paul Bassett said: “Joe brings fantastic technical knowledge, great industry relationships and strengthens our existing crisis management capability and what we can offer clients looking for support in this highly important area of cover.
“His experience of advising complex US-based clients gives us an excellent foundation to develop further products and support firms against the current fast-evolving threat landscape.”

In addition to Gilliland’s appointment, Gallagher recently added three executive leaders to its UK Benefits & HR Consulting division.
Lee Cook, John Deacon and Vishal Makkar have joined the team, bringing their expertise to the company’s pensions administration, corporate consulting and wealth consulting services, respectively.
Last month , Gallagher’s specialty unit introduced a carbon insurance solutions service, aimed at supporting clients with the risks associated with decarbonisation initiatives.
