Great American Insurance Group has formed a new accident and health division that will provide tailored coverage to companies and educational institutions.

The new division, which is based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is the company’s 35th specialty property and casualty business.

The new unit will build upon Great American’s existing accident and health insurance offerings.

James Slate has been appointed as the divisional president to manage the newly formed accident and health division.

He has over 25 years of insurance experience and managed accident and health lines and oversaw the product development, underwriting, and distribution strategy.

Earlier, he was associated with Arch Insurance Group as head of accident and health. Prior to that, he held senior positions at AIG, Allianz as well as Markel.

Great American president and COO of property and casualty group Gary Gruber said: “We are pleased to expand our offerings of specialized insurance solutions for businesses and look forward to the launch of this newest venture.

Great American Insurance mainly operates in the property and casualty insurance segment and offers commercial products for businesses.
