US-based property and casualty insurance company The Hartford has announced new leadership roles in its global speciality segment.

This includes the appointment of Rick Ciullo as head of the segment’s US retail businesses.

The new role extends Ciullo’s oversight beyond bond and credit, and political risk to encompass environmental, financial lines, ocean marine, livestock, and associated retail-focused distribution channels.

In addition, the company expanded Michael Garrison’s responsibilities to now include the international division, in addition to his current role as head of the US wholesale organisation.

Both Garrison and Ciullo will continue to report to Adrien Robinson, head of global speciality at The Hartford, with the leadership changes to take effect from 1 November 2024.

Robinson said: “These leadership appointments bring together complementary business units to enhance innovation and serve the growing needs of our customers and distribution partners with a full suite of products and risk solutions.

Garrison’s enhanced role follows his 2021 appointment as head of wholesale at Navigators, where he concentrated on strategic direction and growth within the company’s wholesale distribution network.

Carl Bach, head of international and CEO of Hartford Underwriting Agency, which manages Lloyd’s of London Syndicate 1221, will now report to Garrison.

Rick Ciullo’s expanded remit builds on his successful tenure since 2016 as the leader of The Hartford’s bond business, where he has driven growth by delivering surety products to a broad spectrum of companies, ranging from small enterprises to Fortune 500 firms.

The leadership team of the businesses under Ciullo’s direction will remain unchanged.
