Insurtech start-up Hippo has introduced its protective home maintenance services to modernise the home insurance experience for its customers.

The launch of the new home maintenance services follows the recent acquisition of home maintenance platform Sheltr by the company.

Sheltr enables homeowners to take care of their homes to recognise and alleviate issues before they become expensive repairs.

Sheltr enables its customers to connect with trained maintenance professionals to offer home wellness checkups. The services avoid small issues from becoming costly repairs and costly claims.

Each service comprises nearly 30 household items, such as changing smoke alarm batteries, replacing HVAC filters, and inspecting issues including leaking pipes and clogged vents.

After completion of the wellness checkup, homeowners is given a synopsis of the all the checks done along with a list of remedial measures to ensure that their home runs smoothly.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, Hippo president of growth initiatives Daniel Blanaru said: “We’re excited to take the next step in developing the best home insurance product available by helping our homeowners identify and reduce risk with protective home maintenance.

“We knew we found the right partner in Sheltr to help us do this. They share our dedication to a customer-first experience along with a high standard for service and close attention to loss prevention. Together with the Sheltr team, we’re creating long-term value for our customers that bring home insurance into a new era.”

Sheltr is currently offering its services in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Dallas and Texas metro area. It will be introduced in new states next year.
