Insurance broker Howden has revealed that its subsidiary has acquired Belgian insurance broker Sarton & Associés for an undisclosed sum.

Sarton & Associés specialises in providing property, casualty, and employee benefits insurance coverages.

Howden Belgium seeks to expand its existing offerings for large corporates, mid-sized businesses, and SMEs with the acquisition of Sarton & Associés.

The deal marks Howden Belgium’s first acquisition since its inception in 2020.

Howden Northern Europe CEO Louise Cable-Alexander said: “By attracting the right talent and empowering people to build businesses and teams, we continue to expand our footprint across Europe and invest in expertise for our clients.”

Additionally, Sarton & Associés’ French-speaking operations are expected to benefit Howden in conducting business across the multi-lingual country.

Howden Belgium CEO Herman Kerremans said: “This deal marks Howden Belgium’s first acquisition and reinforces our strategy to invest in expertise and develop specialist capabilities that deliver the best service to our clients.”

Sarton & Associés founder Paul Sarton said: “Howden was not the first company to approach us, but we chose to join them not only because of their international platform but because of their independent and empowered culture.”

The latest acquisition is part of Howden’s strategy of expanding businesses by partnering with culturally aligned peers to enhance the client offering.

Last week, Howden forayed into the Swiss brokerage market by acquiring BrokerCenterZürichsee (BCZ), which will be renamed as Howden BCZ Versicherungsbroker.

Earlier this month, Howden bought CHB Insurance Brokers (CHB) and established Howden Estonia.
