UK-based insurance broker JMG Group, through JM Glendinning North Yorkshire, has bought C P Bennet for an undisclosed sum.

The acquired company is a personal and commercial lines insurance broker based in Bridlington.

C P Bennet was set up by Charles Percy Bennet in 1929.

The company’s managing director, Simon Benson, who joined the business in 1986, will now relocate to JM Glendinning’s office location in Wykeham, Scarborough.

JM Glendinning, under the leadership of managing director Alison Piercy, has completed its second acquisition shortly after relocating to larger premises for anticipated growth.

In March this year, JM Glendinning took over Madoc & Rhodes, a Birmingham-based insurance broker.

Piercy said: “We have been looking for that perfect addition to our business; one which shares our own operational and cultural values, and one we feel delivers quality customer support. I believe C P Bennet is a great fit and matches who we are and what we do and I am excited to bring them onboard.”

Benson added: “This sale is part of our succession plan, to allow for a seamless transition in the future and continuity for employees and clients. It will also enable us to continue the growth of what my dad and our team have built over the years.

“While growing rapidly, both organically and through acquisitions, the JMG Group still retains its family-run feel and its client-first ethos. I am looking forward to being part of the group and seizing the opportunities that are ahead of us.”

Last month, JMG acquired the general business insurance division of Howe Maxted, a risk management solutions provider.

In May 2024, Greenwood Moreland, another division of JMG, purchased Hamilton Robertson Insurance Brokers along with its specialised unit, C&A Mackie Insurance Brokers.
