By GlobalDataUnder the new agreement with Doctor Care Anywhere, the Doctor@Hand service offers two new enhancements.
Health Tracking app
First is the Doctor Care Anywhere Health Tracking app, which provides condition-led symptom tracking and medication reminders.
The app is designed to improve compliance and adherence to medication, increase engagement with self-management and improve information for GP diagnoses, as patients have the ability to generate health reports to share with their doctor.
Doctor Care Anywhere said research published in 2012 and conducted over a number of years, concluded that access to one’s own patient record and consultation notes increased medication adherence on average by 69%.
The virtual GP cited research saying the number one reason for the failure of management of chronic disease is poor adherence to prescriptions (about 50% of all patients) resulting in a poorer quality of life and time off work.
Repeat prescriptions
The second enhancement means AXA PPP healthcare members can fulfil their NHS repeat prescriptions via the Doctor Care Anywhere platform.
Prescriptions can be collected from a local participating pharmacy and a delivery service is due to go live later this year.
Doctor Care Anywhere said the Doctor@Hand service offering has been one of AXA PPP healthcare’s most successful value added services to date both for corporate clients and their employees.
The provider said the Fast Track Appointments referral pathway from Doctor Care Anywhere GPs to AXA PPP healthcare recommended specialists has been particularly popular and showcases the speed, convenience and efficiency of the integrated service.
Doctor@Hand is available as an enhancement to AXA PPP healthcare’s medical insurance plans or as a standalone service for individuals, SMEs and large corporate clients.
Paul Moulton, intermediary distribution director for AXA PPP healthcare, commented: “Doctor@Hand is proving to be a popular service for members of our corporate healthcare schemes, with reassuringly positive feedback. Employers have been quick to appreciate that, for busy, hardworking employees, Doctor@Hand's easy to access service is a welcome alternative to taking the time and trouble to get in to see their NHS GP.
Indeed, we know from our own research that working parents with dependent children can find it difficult to get a doctor's appointment during working hours – 83 per cent of the parents we surveyed ranked this as being 'most difficult'.”
Kate Newhouse, CEO of Doctor Care Anywhere, said: “Our belief is that our ongoing partnership with AXA PPP healthcare, helps employers in their efforts to ensure that their workforce is healthy and happy, while employees can have the comfort of knowing that they can take control of their health by seeing a GP when needed.”
A full interview with Doctor Care Anywhere’s Kate Newhouse – discussing the outlook for the digital healthcare and collaboration opportunities with life and health insurers – will shortly be available in Life Insurance International.
