Choi’s experience in underwriting casualty risks in Hong Kong and Taiwan is expected to be key in expanding Markel’s cualty portfolio in Asia.

Complementing Choi’s appointment, Anna Tan has come on board as senior underwriter of fine art & specie in Hong Kong.

Tan’s previous role at Hamilton Insurance Group and her connections in Greater China are expected to be pivotal in bolstering Markel’s presence for fine art and specie insurance in the region.

Further strengthening the team, Olga Wong has been appointed as senior underwriter of professional financial risk in Singapore.

With two decades of experience in financial lines underwriting across Asia, Wong will be responsible for enhancing Markel’s financial lines proposition, especially with brokers in the Singapore market.

Choi, Tan, and Wong will report to Kevin Leung, Markel chief underwriting officer of Asia-Pacific.

Additionally, Isabelle Wong has been named cargo underwriter at Markel, tasked with developing and underwriting marine cargo business in the Asia-Pacific region.

She joins from Willis Towers Watson and will be based in Singapore, reporting to Wanshi Lin, Markel senior marine underwriter.

Stobbs said: “We are thrilled to have Alvernia Xu join our team. Her extensive experience in operations and digital distribution will be of huge benefit as we continue to expand our presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Leung added: “I am excited to welcome Olga Wong, Jenny Choi, Isabelle Wong and Anna Tan to the Markel family.
