Japan’s Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company will reportedly deploy 100 Pepper humanoid robots across 80 branches in Japan to help sell life insurance by 2017.
The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Pepper will accompany salespeople on their rounds and explain insurance products and services
It is said Pepper will explain comparatively simple, reasonably priced insurance products in customer service areas at branch offices.
The robots will also reportedly attend to visitors at insurance seminars held by the company, and accompany Meiji Yasuda salespeople on visits to other companies to promote insurance products.
It is also said Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company plans to redecorate 60 of its shop fronts across the nation and position Pepper robots in customer service booths by the fiscal year 2017.
The development comes after Microsoft and SoftBank Robotics announced in March 2016 they will work together to create a next-generation cloud-enabled robot using Pepper — SoftBank Robotics' humanoid robot — and Microsoft's cloud-based Azure IoT Suite.
