Reinsurance broker Miller has further strengthened its Asia presence with the launch of Miller Korea.  

Miller Korea will concentrate on offering global specialty expertise to the Korean market through a team of specialist insurance and reinsurance brokers. 

David Kim has been appointed as the head of Korea business. 

With more than 25 years of experience, he has held several leadership roles including CEO of Marsh Korea and was involved in setting up Johnson and Higgins Korea before its acquisition by Marsh.  

His background also includes a decade in the investment sector with companies such as Morgan Stanley in Japan. 

David Kim said: “I have been struck by the extent of Miller’s aspirations in Asia and look forward to playing an active role in helping to achieve these. Having worked in Korea for over 20 years, I know there is a huge opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the team to grow our presence in the region.”

Along with Kim, several key hires have been made at Miller Korea to support the company’s growth in the region. 

Andrew Kim, with more than 25 years of experience, has worked with Hanwha General Insurance, Chubb, Marsh, Lockton and was most recently the CEO for Korea at AmTrust. 

Youngkum Yoon will assume the role of head of finance and operations. 

Tae Hoon Kim has been appointed to focus on large property and casualty clients in sectors such as energy in Korea.

Miller head of Asia Ron Whyte stated: “David is highly respected and well-known in the Korean insurance market, and I can think of no-one better qualified to lead Miller’s push into the region as we continue to expand the scope and reach of our market-leading specialist capabilities.” 

The company’s Asia expansion includes the acquisition of Japanese broker Lead Insurance Services in 2022 and the recent appointments of Tokinori Kono and Satoshi Watanabe, who are set to enhance Miller’s product capabilities in Japan.  

Last month, Elizabeth McGonagle was named as head of Power for the Asia-Pacific region.
