PhonePe has introduced an insurance coverage, in partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, for travellers attending the Maha Kumbh Mela, being held in Uttar Pradesh, India from 13 January to 26 February 2025. 

The payments firm has described the coverage as a “first-of-its-kind”. 

The Maha Kumbh Mela is a major spiritual event that attracts millions of devotees from around the world. 

The insurance plan is designed to provide financial security to meet the needs of travellers. 

This coverage offers two options – Rs59 for travellers by train or bus and Rs99 for those flying domestically. 

The coverage includes hospitalisation, doctor consultations, outpatient treatment, personal accident cover, and loss of checked-in baggage.

In December 2024, PhonePe launched a new dengue and malaria insurance plan. Starting at Rs59 per year, this plan provides up to Rs100,000 in coverage for medical expenses resulting from vector and air-borne diseases.
