Pool Re, the terrorism reinsurer, has appointed Andrew Stark to the newly created position of head of underwriting, with immediate effect.
At Pool Re, Stark will report directly to chief underwriting officer Jonathan Gray.
His appointment is timely as Pool Re transitions to an annual aggregate excess of loss (XOL) treaty scheme from its existing facultative obligatory treaty in April 2025.
Stark brings two decades of experience in the insurance industry, particularly as Lloyd’s underwriter. His most recent role involved conducting an expert peer review for the international property catastrophe excess of loss (cat XL) book at Chaucer.
He previously held the position of head of property at Chord Re and also worked with other Lloyd’s syndicates such as Barbican, Vibe and Markel.
Gray said: “We are pleased to welcome Andrew as the new head of underwriting. His extensive expertise in global treaty underwriting will be invaluable in supporting the transformation efforts as we navigate the changes to our reinsurance and continue to support the resilience of the UK economy.”
