British insurance broker Premium Choice has launched its first telematics insurance offering, in association with insurtech ThingCo.
The new offering is called Aura Insurance, and ThingCo will offer those signing up for the proposition with a solar-powered, voice-enabled telematics device named Theo.
The device, which can be installed in the car’s windscreen, can speak to the customer to check whether they are fine in case of an accident using Alexa powered Voice.
At the same time, it can alert emergency services.
Besides, the device has the capability to gather second-by-second data. This data can offer motorists fair insurance pricing based on actual mileage.
With ThingCo’s Smart FNOL process, the device supports a smooth claims experience.

By GlobalDataPremium Choice head of Telematics Chris Pryor said: “Theo fits simply and quickly on the inside of any car windscreen so this, and the Voice capability really sold the device to us as the right solution for our first telematics product.”
Pryor added: “Having this level of insight will also be key to us lowering claims loss ratios for our insurer partners. The other major advantage is we can confidently quote for low mileage policies when customers are unsure how much mileage they may incur over the next year, with the flexibility to top up if needed.”
In February this year, Zurich Group invested in British data analytics and telematics insurance provider My Policy.
As part of the transaction, Zurich becomes a long-term insurance capacity provider. It will support an existing panel of insurers to drive growth of JURNY, My Policy’s usage-based insurance offering.
