Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada has announced the launch of a new service that gives its clients access to virtual healthcare services network across the country.

Customers using the insurer’s network can connect with various types of medical professionals, such as doctors, registered nurses, mental health professionals, as well as other medical practitioners.

Sun Life Financial Canada president Jacques Goulet said: “We’re excited to offer this innovative healthcare solution. It is another great example of how we are using technology to meet the growing needs of our clients. Virtual care will empower and engage Canadians as they manage their health and wellness, anywhere, anytime.”

The virtual care referral network will initially include three service companies: Akira, EQ Care and Maple.

Offered to individual and group clients, the firms will facilitate services such as online visits with medical professionals and prescriptions and the companies have convenient hours of operation including during the evenings and weekends.

Sun Life Financial Canada vice-president of group benefits Dave Jones said: “Whether you are bedbound fighting a nasty virus or running a busy schedule with back-to-back meetings, fitting in a doctor’s appointment can be tough.

“Sun Life’s virtual care referral network will help individuals get quick and reliable care, save precious time, and focus on what matters the most.”

Sun Life said that its virtual care referral network can be accessed via the company’s My Sun Life mobile app.
