Is the recovery in US life
insurance sales faltering? Though far from conclusive, data from
analytical company MIB Group suggests it could be.

According to MIB, activity for
individually underwritten life insurance in June 2010 declined by
3.9% in June year-on-year, the largest drop in application volume
since March 2009. June’s activity was down 1.4% from the previous
month’s level. The decline is not in keeping with normal
seasonality for this time period, noted MIB.

Overall, MIB said individually
underwritten life insurance activity experienced alternating
monthly gains and losses over the first two quarters of 2010
resulting in application activity being off fractionally at June’s
close, down 0.2% to the end of June compared with the first half of
2009.
